I can finally announce this project, although as much as I hate to write it, these soap dishes have already sold out... At the beginning of the year, cook and author, Nigel Slater, got in touch to discuss a project he had planned with Perfumer H, a fragrance company with stores in London, Paris, Taipei and Hong Kong. Lyn Harris, founder of Perfumer H, and Nigel, put together a special collection called 'A Feast', and I was asked to create the soap dishes for the soap. Simple, or so I thought. This lengthy video covers their entire creation from beginning to end, from the throwing, trimming, cutting into shape, the bisque firing, chamfering the bottom edges, waxing them, glazing them and finally reduction firing them to cone ten, (1290ºC). Phew, there's a lot of ground to cover... I hope you enjoy the watch and do let me know if you have any questions. 🕯 • Perfumer H: https://www.perfumerh.com 🧼 • The sold out soap dishes: https://www.perfumerh.com/products/fl... 📖 • ORDER MY BOOK: https://geni.us/bymyhands 🏺 • You may also be interested in my 'A Beginner's Guide' series, which you can find here: • How to Throw a Pot — A Beginner's Guide Timecodes: 0:00 - Introduction 0:13 - Preparing soft clay for the dishes 2:08 - Throwing the dishes 5:17 - Wiring them dishes off 8:40 - Trimming the dishes 9:50 - Cutting the dishes into shape 15:45 - Loading the electric kiln for bisque firing to 1000ºC 17:11 - Unpacking the soap dishes 18:18 - Bevelling the bottom edges using a diamond sanding pad 20:13 - Washing the dust off the dishes 21:06 - Waxing the soap dishes 22:36 - Glazing the dishes 24:10 - Cleaning the bases 27:03 - Packing my ROHDE KG-340 gas kiln 28:15 - Reduction firing the kiln load of work to cone ten, 1290ºC 31:10 - Unpacking the kiln 33:30 - Sanding their bases 34:20 - Wrapping the dishes for delivery 36:02 - The finished dish and the soap • Find out much more via the link below! https://linktr.ee/floriangadsby • Get in touch here: https://www.floriangadsby.com/contact Sign up to my newsletter here: https://www.floriangadsby.com/newsletter
