[The Italian verb TENERE and its natural expressions] Maybe you know the Italian verb TENERE already, but do you know the expressions we use with this verb? TENERE has two meanings: 1. HOLD SOMETHING IN ONE'S HAND: "Tenere il bicchiere in mano" 2. MAINTAIN A CONDITION OR THE POSITION (of the body or of an object) "Tenere la porta chiusa" What are the most common natural expressions that include the verb TENERE? Here they are: TENERE A QUALCUNO o A QUALCOSA: to think someone or something is important. "Tengo molto al mio cane" means that my dog is important to me. TENERE DURO: resist, hold on "Non mi piace il mio lavoro, ma tengo duro finché non trovo un nuovo lavoro" TENERE D'OCCHIO QUALCOSA o QUALCUNO: to monitor, to check on something or someone "Teniamo d'occhio il cane" means to watch what the dog is doing and check that everything is ok.
