The Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine found in the 2022 Street Bob 114 is one of the most potent ever made by Harley-Davidson. Since its debut in 2016, Harley-Davidson has had little incentive to make changes to the 114-cubic-inch Milwaukee Eight, save for switching to a black wrinkle treatment instead of polished chrome. While the massive, air-cooled V-Twin within the Street Bob 114's frame may look timeless, it actually conceals cutting-edge technology such as fuel mapping that supposedly achieves 47 mpg combined fuel economy and rear-cylinder deactivation to reduce engine temperature when idling. To boost performance without compromising the bike's sleek design, an oil cooler is concealed between the forward-down tubes of the frame. The power is readily available from idling and increases to the maximum of 4,750 rpm. The torque peak occurs significantly earlier, providing the same strong acceleration over the whole rpm range that cruiser fans have come to expect. A six-speed transmission and a belt final drive transmit power from the engine to the relatively narrow 150 mm rear tire. In the front, a four-piston caliper squeezes a single 300-millimeter brake rotor, while in the back, a two-piston caliper squeezes a single 292-millimeter brake rotor.
