What does historical realism look like in a modern role-playing game? In this episode of My Perfect Console, Simon Parkin is joined by Czech game designer Prokop Jirsa, Lead Designer at Warhorse Studios and one of the key creative voices behind the acclaimed RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance and its ambitious sequel Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. After completing his Master’s degree at Prague University of Economics and Business, Prokop joined Warhorse Studios as a designer on Kingdom Come: Deliverance, helping shape the game’s distinctive approach to historical authenticity, first-person immersion, and combat rooted in the realities of medieval life. Following the success of the original game, he went on to serve as Lead Designer on its sequel, expanding its systems, narrative scope, and player freedom while maintaining the studio’s philosophy of realism and consequence. Across his career, Prokop’s design philosophy has consistently emphasised trust in the player—favouring meaningful choices, grounded storytelling, and immersive worlds over traditional power fantasies. That approach has helped Warhorse carve out a distinctive place in modern RPG design and build a devoted global audience.
