Guillem Feixas: Focusing interventions on self-identity and metacognitive processes

This webinar was presented by Prof. Guillem Feixas, on February 4th, 2025. Abstract: Reconstruction of self-identity is a transtheoretical therapeutic ingredient of most psychotherapies. However, assessment of identity processes has become complex and elusive, as it is the monitoring of identity change across the therapy process. Explore Your Meanings (EYME) is a technology platform based on the repertory grid technique devised to represent and investigate the patient’s construal of self and others, including how someone's self-image differs from their ideal self. Using EYME with the guidance of the therapist, clients can visualize the personal constructs or schemas involved in the perception of themselves and others in 3D (screen) and VR. This immersive exploration enhances metacognitive capacities (e.g., understanding mental states of self and others) that are essential for optimal functioning and a target for psychotherapy in many clinical conditions. We will illustrate the transformative potential of this approach with a case study, and will present several intervention formats implemented in ongoing empirical studies.
