Presenting to you: "Golden Child" is a riveting play by award-winning playwright David Henry Hwang. Tieng-Bin is a travelling merchant who has met Asians who have converted to Christianity. Impressed by their openness and ambition, he decides to do the same. However, his conversion dictates that he divorce two of his three wives. Each of his wives react differently to the change he brings into the household, and a fiery family feud erupts as they struggle between maintaining long-held traditions and adapting to new ideals. Golden Child explores the notion of faith versus religion, the plasticity of cultural identity and its implications, and the convergence or divergence of cultural norms at the turn of the Chinese society in the early 20th century.
