Fixing the RG Akatsuki - Custom painted Akatsuki speed build - [4K]

Welcome back to the channel! In today's video we have our very first, narrated custom speed build. The Real Grade Akatsuki was a very controversial release when it came out. When I reviewed this kit on the channel my biggest issue with it was the very visible mold lines on some of the armor panels. Some other builders and reviewers had a really hard time liking the gold plating, with some finding it to look "cheap" like a childs toy. However, everyone universally had issues with the reused inner frame from the RG Aile Strike Gundam. The upper hip ball joint caused a lot of strife and was the achilles heel for an otherwise decent kit. So let's tackle this flawed, expensive beast. To address the issue some had with the plating we're going to strip the plating, that way we can paint the build in a pearlescent gold color. This will emulate the plating but not be as chromatic, retaining details and not washing out in lighted situations. We'll also be able to see the different shades of gold a little more easily in paint over the plating. To get these different golds we're going to paint some gold with a light primer, and the other golds will be painted over a black base coat. Before we paint the Akatsuki we need to do our mold refinements and fix all the mold lines that are visible on the kit. The mold line's we're going to specifically target are the front shin armor, the upper thigh armor and the forearm armor, the rest of the mold lines are well hidden or aren't visible on the completed model. The third thing we're going to fix here is the upper hip joint that's plagued this kit since it's inception. for this we're going to be using the 107 toys hip replacement joint and this should stiffen the Akatsuki hip instantly and basically fix that entire issue of the kit.
