The unique conditions of Arabia have created opportunities for the weird and wonderful Oman Garra fish – who’s dull appearance belies their pioneering aspirations. Most of the time they must live in tiny stagnant pools, but flood water creates new channels through the rocks linking pools together. It’s a chance to expand into new territory, but to do so they must become rock climbers, heaving themselves over rapids. It’s a terrible gamble; some fish will find dead ends, leaving them high and dry. But by taking the chance, others will succeed and populate new Wadis.
