EMDX GP38-2 #799 is the power on today's BNSF Lumber District job, the trackage in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood that roughly parallels Cermak Road, Blue Island Avenue, and the CSX B&OCT along Western Avenue... this is classic, tight-clearance, industrial urban switching, close to downtown Chicago! The industries close to the Fisk power plant are the the furthest east the line goes (at one time, it went further east and connected to the Amtrak trackage at Lumber St.- hence the name of the job.) This is also the former Central Illinois Railway, which BNSF bought back early this year. Here, 799's crew guides traffic around the switching move as the short train drops off an empty boxcar at Colonial Brick, on the other side of Cermak. The other boxcar is a load from the brick distributor, heading for Western Avenue Yard. After dropping off the empty car, the Geep pushes the loaded one across Cermak and heads west. It runs around the boxcar at the passing siding a few blocks to the west, then is seen a few blocks further on, crossing Loomis St on its way to the industries around Blue Island Ave & 26th St, which it will serve before heading to Western Ave Yard. ~Thanks for watching!~
