Tobago Launches First-Ever Transit Hub In Scarborough

Tobago now boasts its first transit hub, located in Scarborough. The facility, the first of its kind, was established by Tobago-based private company Touch Tobago Live under the Tobago House of Assembly’s Adopt-a-Bus-Shed Programme. On Monday, the hub, which features two fully outfitted lounges, was officially opened to the public. Speaking at the brief opening ceremony, Touch Tobago Live Technical Coordinator Kyron Reid said the vision for the project dates back to 2016, after observing the challenges faced by commuters. "Government come, government go, the reality is we still don't have a terminal, so in 2025, when the Division of Settlements came up with the initiative with Adopt-a-Bus-Shed, Loyse Vincent actually said we can revisit the idea. Today it has left us with two units. Now it’s a reason why we call them Transit Lounge 1 and Transit Lounge 2. In total, we can accommodate 42 passengers seated. We have air-conditioned space, free Wi-Fi, updates to the bus terminal schedule, and today is a very proud moment for us and our team." Mr Reid noted that the project was executed entirely by Tobagonians and came at no cost to the THA. Secretary of Public Infrastructure Nathisha Charles-Pantin commended the team, as well as then Assistant Secretary of Settlements Orlando Kerr, for his vision in spearheading the Adopt-a-Bus-Shed initiative. "The concept was simple but groundbreaking. Invite the private sector in, create space for innovation and allow partnership to enhance public infrastructure in meaningful ways. Today, the Division of Public Infrastructure and Transportation, we are proud to continue that responsibility and to see it evolve. I wish to extend sincere congratulations to Touch Tobago Live for taking this concept to another level and reimagining what we think a bus shed in Tobago could look like."
