Description: Crysler Floods - More than a century of water, clay, and stubborn resistence In this Village Walk episode, ManstreetRob explores the long and dramatic history of flooding in Crysler, Ontario—a community shaped by the South Nation River and the unpredictable Leda clay beneath it. From the destruction of the original 1885 bridge in the flood of 1886 to the devastating 1907 flood immortalized in a photo at the community centre, Crysler has endured more than its share of waterborne hardship. MainstreetRob traces the impact of repeated floods in 1986, 1907, 1938, 1950, and the catastrophic 1982 flood, which prompted the construction of a protective dyke completed in 1991. Using archival accounts and a vivid report from the Chesterville Record, this video highlights the causes, damage, and emotional toll of the 1982 flood—including the ice jam at St. Albert and reference to the landslide-prone terrain, especially near Lemieux. This is a story of stubborn adaptation, and the enduring relationship between a village and its river. Filmed on location in Crysler, Ontario Featuring archival insights from the Chesterville Record News, notably the April 7, 1982 edition (available on the SDG Archives) Maps and background information from the South Nation Conservation Authority See also the excellent article on the Lemieux landslide at https://www.ottawagatineaugeoheritage... 🎙️ Narrated by MainstreetRob
