There’s a lot of pressure right now to be loud — to speak out, stay engaged, and constantly react to everything happening in the world. In this episode, I reflect on why not everyone is meant to respond in the same way — and why quiet, embodied presence still matters. I begin with a question that’s been sitting heavy in my body: Is it okay to feel joy during hard times? From there, this becomes a conversation about nervous systems, regulation, quiet work vs. loud work, and choosing aliveness instead of constant outrage. This episode explores: why silence isn’t the same as negligence different roles in moments of crisis nervous system regulation and embodiment becoming more alive as a form of care trusting your way of showing up This was recorded in the moment, unpolished, exactly as I was — fuzzy socks and all. If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, unsure where you fit, or guilty for needing rest, this episode is for you. 00:00 Showing up unready 00:51 Flow doesn’t wait for polish 01:08 The poet and the galloping idea 01:43 Podcast intro 02:09 Is it okay to feel joy right now? 02:51 The pressure to be loud 03:16 Honoring front-line voices 04:19 Not everyone is meant to be loud 04:55 Different nervous systems, different roles 05:39 Choosing how I contribute 06:19 Becoming more alive 06:50 Waking up from autopilot 08:07 Quiet awakenings matter 09:26 A mass awakening and collective pain 10:23 The need to be witnessed 11:20 What being in my body means 12:17 Presence with my kids 13:21 Listening to the body 14:23 Becoming alive through presence 14:35 Internal systems shape external systems 15:49 Looking at our own systems 16:12 Changing systems in simple ways 17:30 Using tools to see patterns 19:10 Retraining the nervous system 20:39 Control, safety, and fear 21:40 Fight or flight and decision-making 22:13 Parts of ourselves as protectors 23:26 Bringing the nervous system back to center 24:23 Finding my role right now 25:12 Quiet, underground work 25:58 What people are really asking for 26:37 Let’s be human again 27:12 Acknowledging quiet work 28:07 Closing reflections 28:45 Show up as you are
