I was ten years old when I first heard this song. I knew I was a fan of Queen from that moment. How could I have known at the time that decades later I would still love Bohemian Rhapsody? Studying a song to learn it for a YouTube cover always uncovers more meaning, more cleverness, more conventions and more depth. This is no exception. Learning Bohemian Rhapsody has taught me that a song can change key, change style and change mood and yet settle in the mind of those who know it as one cohesive piece of music. Obviously Freddie Mercury must have studied opera and applied its tricks to the operatic section. The heavy rock section is rich in its overlay of triplet rhythms.
