Classical Mechanics - Hamilton -Jacobi Theory : Action and Angle Variables

Periodic motion is of special interest in many physical systems. Sometimes we are interested only to know the frequencies of the motion but not in the details of the orbit. A very interesting and powerful method to handle the problems of periodic motion has been developed by extending the Hamilton -Jacobi Method . In this method,we make use of properly defined constants Jk ,which form a set of n independent functions of the new momenta,occurring in the solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation .We call these constants Jk as the action variable. The generalized coordinate wk conjugate to Jk is defined as the Angle Variable.
