VS Code tips — Moving the Activity Bar to the top for a more compact layout on small displays

Working on a small display or just want to save some screen real estate? Try moving VS Code's activity bar to the top! The activity bar is shown on far right side of the editor and contains the explorer, search view, debug view, etc. It's a prime candidate for gaining more space because by default it's always visible We can use the `Views: Move activity bar to top` command to move the activity bar into the top of the sidebar instead. After this move, all the same sections (Explorer, search, debug, ...) will be shown at the top of the side bar. You can use ctrl+b or cmd+b to quickly toggle the side bar too You can also move the activity bar by right clicking on it and going to the `Activity bar position` menu item. There's also an option to hide the activity bar entirely, but I personally find the `top` option is a good compromise between usability and compactness #vscode
