LATTC has several programs within its Construction, Maintenance, and Utilities pathway that train students how to keep the lights on. The Electrical Construction and Maintenance programs prepare students for careers in residential, commercial, and industrial construction and maintenance of electrical systems. Students gain knowledge of electrical theory, electrical controls, conduit installation, low-voltage systems, maintenance practices, and equipment installation. The pathway also offers programs in the renewable energy arena, including energy efficiency, solar, and solar thermal installation and maintenance, that train professionals to specialize on projects that prioritize systems that can harness clean, renewable sources of energy. One of only two programs of its kind at a community college in the greater LA area, the CMU pathway offers a Powerline Mechanic program and a Powerline Worker pole climbing certification. These highly skilled and in-demand professionals learn the skills needed to install, maintain, and repair electrical power systems that are attached to power poles, such as transformers, capacitors, and switches. The programs enable individuals to be prepared to take the entry-level certification for electrical craft helper and entry into various utility alignment and apprentice programs, such as DWP, SCE, SG&E, and PG&E. These exciting and essential programs prepare the workforce needed in the design and maintenance of the city's electrical infrastructure.
