Learn about the 3 effects of inductance on electric circuits. Click to subscribe: http://bit.ly/Scopes_Sub Scope tips eBook ► http://bit.ly/2MG_eBook ◄ AC step response video: • Identifying Parasitic Inductance and AC St... In today's 2-Minute Guru, we use a 1000 X-Series oscilloscope to measure an inductor and view the effects of inductance on a basic electronic circuit. See the three different effects inductance has on electrical systems. Knowing the 3 effects of inductance will help you learn how to properly use inductors and how to identify inductive influences in your systems. Inductors are the most common cause of inductive effects, but capacitance is an inherent electrical property of basically every material. So, what do inductors do? First, inductors resist an electrical current change by storing and releasing energy in the form of a magnetic field. The ability of inductors to store energy means that when a current is applied to the inductor, it will start to store that energy instead of passing it through to the system. This can be used to create high pass and low pass filters. Second, inductors selectively filter frequency components of AC signals. Depending on the configuration, inductors will filter high or low frequencies out of an electrical system. An inductor allows low frequency components to pass through it and blocks out high frequency signal components. Third, an inductor changes the phase relation between voltage and current. In an inductive circuit, the voltage leads the current. Inductors change the phase by 90 degrees.
