We all had come a long long way advancing with our small platoon, had crossed those rivers that had held us back there for so long ‘cause we had such a long delay since we embarked early last june so glad to reach our friends now that had been so brave and strong People all around to greet us a crowd as far a you could see, the dutch resistance there to meet us, those solders that had all been struggling on that muddy Ardennes ridge our soldiers that had long been fighting and marching on that finally now proudly crossed Berlage bridge Those frightful moments when the folks were celebrating their precious freedom that was taken for so long and then were shot by german soldiers who knew the war was lost but still kept fighting on, kept fighting on… We were requested to stay on by military and their staff to honor all those who had fallen in this deadly fight and all those who had lost someone paid their respect on their behalf and wanted justice to be done, justice to be served downright People all around were cheering, a crowd as far as you could see, who had been brave and persevering in spite of poverty and pain they all now felt so free and rich, were cheering all those marching soldiers that proudly crossed the Amstel river, proudly crossed Berlage bridge, that crossed Berlage bridge… Music and lyrics by Don Rosenbaum Musical accompaniment: The Nostalgic Philharmonic Orchestra.
