Sitia day & night Crete Greece 4K Sitia is located on north coast in region Lasithi in East Crete and it is the easternmost Cretan town. The distance from Heraklion, the main city of the island, is 130 km. Sitia has population of 9500 people and is the 6th largest city in Crete. The main highlight of Sitia is the port which is surrounded by promenade with restaurants, cafes and bars. During the night there are underwater lights which make magical atmosphere. Behind the port is very nice promenade with canal that used to be Roman fishtank, nowadays there are numerous water birds which can be observed from benches or by walking along. Above the port there is Venetian fortress called Kazarma. It has main square-shaped tower and used to be main Venetian fortification of the town. The view from the fortress offers panorama of the town and port. For those interested in history, Sitia offers Archaeological museum and Folklore museum. The beach of Sitia is sandy with quite fast descending. Beach is organised, there are beach snack bars that are renting beach sets, life guard and watersports. Just 24 km eastern of Sitia can be found unique and popular Vai palm beach. Sitia has developed infrastructure and great tourism potential, however still remains apart from mass tourism. That makes Sitia special and it is together with, in my opinion, the most beautiful city lights in Crete the reason why Sitia is my favourite.
