I've recently started converting some of my plants from soil to passive (semi) hydro. I wanted to show you my experience and what steps I follow. You'll Need: Plastic inner pot with drainage holes Outer pot/waterproof container with no drainage holes Growing medium (LECA in this case) Superthrive Instructions: 1. Rinse LECA under running water to get rid of dust particles. Make sure to catch dusty water so it does not go down the drain. Alternatively, you can rinse then soak the LECA for 12 to 24 hours. 2. Remove the soil from your plants roots. This is a tedious and careful process but it's important. You want most of the soil removed, otherwise, roots covered in soil will stay wet potentially resulting in root rot or moldy roots. 3. Plant your plant in LECA. Very similar to how you plant in soil. Remember to gently shake the LECA in the inner pot to ensure it is evenly distributed in the pot and around the roots. 4. Place freshly planted plant into the outer pot/waterproof container with no drainage hole. 5. Mix up your water with the Superthrive (according to directions on the back of the bottle). 6. Add Superthrive solution to your outer pot/waterproof container with no drainage hole. Pour solution over the top of the inner pot until water reaches 1/3 the height of the inner pot. For newly transitioned plants I like to use a clear container. This allows me to see the water level at all times, however, this can lead to algae growth. For a non clear container use tape, draw a line, or scratch a line into the outer pot so you know where your waterline should be. 7. When your water starts to evaporate, add in plain water to outer pot so waterline is consistently at that 1/3 mark. 8. Eventually your LECA will get a white dust on the top (salt). When you see this it's time for a rinse/flush day. Flush/rinse days consist of rinsing off the plant and LECA until the white dust is gone. Then you completely replace the water in your outer pot with the Superthrive solution (step 6). After that, it's like wash rinse repeat. Your plants can stay happy like this for about a month. After that, you will need to start adding nutrients to your plants in passive hydro. That will be another video! Side note: Some people adjust the pH of their water. I did not do this when I was converting my plants.
