Location: Wales Township Hall System: St. Clair County Test time: 1st Monday of the month at 1 PM Enthusiasts present: Tommy (@buckeyenotifications) Back in February 2024, Tommy and I attempted to film the Thunderbolt in Wales Township, MI; however, it ended up failing on us, and to say we were pissed would be putting it lightly. A little over a year later, after seeing some other people get successful tests from this, we decided to bite the bullet and try it one more time for the first Monday of May, and thankfully, it paid off this time. This ended up being a bit louder than I was originally anticipating. I'd say it's about on par with the 'bolt in Auglaize Township, so pretty dang loud, but definitely not the loudest I've heard. What impressed me most about this, though, was the fact that, if you watch closely, it actually visibly shook my Lumix and PowerShot a little bit when it faced them! Not only that, but it managed to overload the built-in mics on all 3 of my cameras pretty considerably (my H1n handled it just fine, though). Another thing about this particular 'bolt is the bearings in the chopper motor skip pretty noticeably on the wind-down, which could indicate early signs that they're starting to go bad, although it has been doing that since at least 2021, so only time will tell. Anyway, I'm glad this thing went off for us this time around, and I'd say this is overall a pretty nice-sounding 'bolt, aside from the bearing-skipping. After this, we went to Hillsdale to record their 'bolt at 6 PM. Enjoy! Tight shot: Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ80 Wide shot: Sony HDR-PJ710 Rule of Thirds shot: Canon PowerShot SX60 HS Audio: Zoom H1n
