Dr. George Abela was elected President of the Republic of Malta on the 4th April 2009 following a Parliamentary resolution which unanimously approved his nomination as the eighth President of Malta. Dr. Abela was born in Qormi, Malta on the 22nd April 1948 and is the son of a registered port worker. He was educated at the Lyceum and the University of Malta and furthered his studies in European Law and obtained his Magister Iuris Degree in 1995. For many years, Dr. Abela has been deeply involved in the administration of sports in Malta, particularly in football. He first served as a treasurer in his village football club, Qormi F.C., and later on as its President. He's also encourages and participates in philantropic activities and is Chairman of the Malta Community Chest Fund Dr. Abela is married to Margaret nee' Cauchi and they have two children, Robert and Maria. San Anton Palace The palace was built between 1623 and 1636, during the rule of the Knights. The Presidential Palace at San Anton Garden was built between 1623 and 1636 and was opened to the to the public in 1882 for picnics and strolls by Governor Borton. Valletta Palace The Grandmaster's Palace is a palace erected in Valletta, Malta, in 1571. It currently houses the House of Representatives of Malta and the office of the President of Malta, and is officially referred to as simply The Palace, Valletta. Furthermore, it is an heritage site run by Heritage Malta; therefore it is both a representative in-use building and a cultural site at the same time. Valletta Palace. Over the years, the Palace was enlarged and developed by successive Grandmasters to serve as their official residence. In the 18th-century, traveller Patrick Brydone noted that: THE MUSIC COMPOSER: Mro Camilleri, who has made a name for himself and for Malta all over the world, embarked on his career in his teenage years composing a number of works based on Maltese folk tales and legends. Later on in life he conducted, wrote film scores, operas, orchestral works, chamber ensembles, concertos, operas, a ballet, the oratorio Pawlu ta' Malta and the famous Malta Suite which you hear in this video.
