Checks and balance, Political Leadership, and Bureaucratic Autonomy Evidence from NDBs

How political leadership shapes the vision and capacity of development agencies? To what extent the capacity of development agencies depends on the interaction between formal political institutions and a leadership? Tianyang Xi is an Assistant Professor at the National School of Development from Peking University. In this 3 minutes video he presents his research work on this topic, gives his key findings and policy recommendations. Tianyang Xi has been part of the pilot research program “Realizing the Potential of Public Development Banks for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals”. This program was launched, along with the International Research Initiative on Public Development Banks (PDBs), by the Institute of New Structural Economics (INSE) at Peking University, and sponsored by the Agence française de développement (AFD), Ford Foundation and International Development Finance Club (IDFC). This video is released for the occasion of the 14th AFD International Research Conference on Development.
