Winter Garden Walk

We moved here in 2014 and took over the property from a woman who had lived and gardened here for more than 45 years. Much of the garden was planted in the 1970s and 1980s, and she meticulously documented it in a handwritten book, entirely in Latin. As she grew older, the garden slowly became wilder, and by the time we arrived it needed a great deal of care and restoration. Over the next four years, we worked to restore the garden to something close to what it once was, before gradually beginning to make it our own. Garden restoration has become an ongoing, seasonal practice which is demanding, physical, and deeply rewarding. Caring for the garden is also a welcome contrast to my work in ceramics, offering a different rhythm from time spent in the pottery studio. The garden is now preparing for spring, when it quietly comes back to life in layers of colour and texture.
