Here is what we did. With these simple tools, we tackled our frozen pipe situation with a long lasting solution to stop the pipes from freezing. Don't worry about the difficulty to install heat cable. We will walk through the basics so you know how to install heat cable quickly and easily. The directions from the frost king Heating cables (with continuously sensing thermostat) clearly state that the cables should not be spiraled around the pipe. Instead, the heat cable is to be applied to the bottom side of the pipe in exterior applications. If the heat cable or heat tape is longer than you need, you can add the extra length of cable to the top side of the pipe. CAUTION: the instructions say that you cant apply more than 2x the pipe length of cable. You have to be very careful to buy the correct size. Since the cable is NOT supposed to come into contact with itself, getting the proper length of heat tape is crucial. The heat cable is then to be plugged into a GFCI outlet. Since we are dealing with a potentially wet environment, a GFCI outlet will help prevent electrocution. Thanks for watching!
