Police have described the family as a powerful criminal syndicate with influence across western and south western Sydney. Bilal Haouchar was alleged to be a central figure in a large scale network involved in cocaine importation, drug supply, tobacco smuggling and money laundering. After leaving Australia in 2018, he was accused of directing operations from Lebanon using encrypted communication and trusted relatives. In late 2023, a joint operation between Australian and Lebanese authorities led to his arrest in Beirut along with dozens of others in coordinated raids. In 2025, he was sentenced in Lebanon to eight years in prison. Authorities said the operation significantly disrupted one of Sydney’s most prominent organised crime networks, although competition in the cocaine trade continues among rival groups.
