Female Choir „Canzona – Absolwent” Murowana Goślina (Poland) Meet the choir: • Meet the Choir: Canzona Absolwent (Poland) Conductor: Elżbieta Wtorkowska The Canzona Absolwent ladies’ choir was established in the autumn of 2001. It is made up of former members of the Canzona girls’ choir. The choir takes part in events and gives concerts all over Poland and abroad. Here are the most important competitions and festivals Canzona Absolwent took part in: In 2003 the choir performed in Sweden at the International Music Festival in Kristianstad. In 2004 it won the main prize at the 15th Wielkopolska Choral Meetings in Koło. In 2005 it brought home a silver diploma and a distinction for the performance of antique music at the International Choral Competition in Barczewo. In the same year, it won a bronze medal at the International Choral Competition in Tampere in Finland. In 2006 it gained a silver diploma at the International Choral Competition in Bratislava. In 2008 the choir won a silver medal at the 36th International Choral Festival in Olomouc in the Czech Republic. In 2009 it won a silver diploma at the 9th International Choral Competition in Bad Ischl in Austria. In 2010 the group received a silver award at the 17th Yuzhnaya Palmira International Choral Competition in Odessa, Ukraine. In autumn 2009 the choir appeared at the 9th Biggar Little Festival and gave concerts in Edinburgh, Scotland. In 2011 the choir took part in the 1st National Marian Song „Maryi Matce” in Poznań, where it received the 3rd prize. The group also performed during the summer Vocal Music Concerts „Varmia Gaudent et Cantat” in Ramsowo. In 2013 the choir took part in the Third International Choir Competition "Canco Mediterrania" in Lloret de Mar, Spain, where the women won three Silver Diplomas and third prize in the category of sacred music. In 2014 the ensemble was awarded two bronze diplomas and reached the finals by achieving 3rd place in the Grand Prix competition at the International Choir Contest in Freamunde, Portugal. In 2015 the choir received the 1st prize at the 5th International Chernomorski Zvutsi Competition in Balchik, Bulgaria. In 2016 it gained 2nd prize at the 5th International Choral Competition “Music&Sea” in Paralia, Greece. In 2017 the ensemble was awarded the “Honorary Diploma of Excellence” at the 23rd International Choral Competition on Malta. In 2018 the choir took part in a concert tour in the United States, giving performances in New York City and in New Jersey. In 2019 the choir received the 2nd prize at the International Choir Festival “Les voix de la liberté” in Yvetot, France. In 2007, the choir co-organized the Edmund Szymanski International Choral Meeting and since 2008 it has been organizing the annual editions of the Edmund Szymanski International Choral Festival in Murowana Goślina. The choir’s repertoire is based on the traditions of romantic, contemporary, and folk songs, as well as popular music. The ensemble also performs early music. The choir’s founder and first conductor is Elżbieta Wtorkowska, Professor at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, and its second conductor is Adrianna Wtorkowska-Kubińska, a graduate of the Academy of Music in Poznań who has also completed a choirmaster’s qualification in Bydgoszcz.
