When Elvis was devising his set list for his return to live performing in July 1969, and the subsequent tweaks in the coming years, there would certainly have been some major hits that would not even have entered his mind about including in the show. This could have been for a number of reasons, for example, Elvis might simply not have been particularly fond of a song, it might not suit the live arena or it simply wouldn’t fit into a show featuring a new mature Elvis Presley. Elvis’ 1960 hit “Wooden Heart” would surely have ticked at least two of these three boxes. Throughout the seventies, it was not unknown for Elvis to throw in a song completely off the cuff with many not receiving complete versions. Often, after a certain portion into the song Elvis could not remember the words or for any other reason it was often abandoned halfway through. In the case of “Wooden Heart”, there are just three versions which constitute anything other than a one line excerpt. These renditions, one from 1971 and two 1975 range in length and delivery but all worth hearing!
