Returning to the rails once again on the Strasburg Rail Road, Thomas is fired up just in time for the summer rush! Celebrating 80 years of the iconic blue tank engine in 2025, these celebratory excursions would take passengers from East Strasburg to Cherry Hill and return. In addition to these trains, Strasburg Rail Road's 2-10-0 #90, recently returning from a comprehensive 1,472 day overhaul, would meet Thomas on a regular basis as he prepares to tackle the grade returning to East Strasburg. In a fantastic display of steam and sound, climb aboard as we follow Thomas and 90 along the "Road to Paradise" on an overcast summer day in "Day Out with Thomas Spectacular 2025" by Keystone Rail Productions! History of Thomas: BEDT 15 (Thomas) is an 0-6-0st Built in 1917 by the H.K. Porter Company that was designated to work as a dockside switcher for the Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal. When it arrived at Brooklyn it was numbered 15 and was tasked to switch freight cars and take short coal trains around the docks and onto railroad barges, often pulled by the railroad's tugboat. When it was finally retired in 1965 It was moved to the South Appalachia Railway in Burnsville, North Carolina from 1965 to 1975 when it was moved to the Toledo, Lake Erie and Western Railway in Grand Rapids, Ohio. It was then put on Static Display for a number of years. In 1998, the locomotive was purchased by the Strasburg Rail Road in Lancaster, PA, and was then converted into the only live steam example of Thomas in the United States that we see today. History of Strasburg Rail Road 90: Strasburg Rail Road 90 is a 2-10-0 "Decapod" Built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1924 and ordered for the Great Western Railroad in Colorado. During her service life, 90 worked and hauled sugar beat trains as one of the most powerful locomotives on the Great Western Railroad's roster. In 1967, the Strasburg Rail Road Company purchased 90 and she has been serving Strasburg ever since her career with the Great Western ended. At Strasburg's world-class shops, a series of modifications were made to better suit passenger service, like the removal of the smoke box extension and the rearranging of domes atop the boiler. In early 2025, she returned to service featuring a nostalgic 1990's paint scheme after an extensive 1,472 day overhaul. To this day, 90 provides reliable passenger and freight service to the railroad.
