I got a sweet opportunity to optimize my Modular Groovebox with two new Shakmat modules – Triple Steeple and Banshee Reach, an Envelope Generator and an Oscillator. Shakmat is really starting a club in my case eh? I think that’s for good reason. I’m a big believer in careful selection of modules, but, even with painstaking choosiness, it’s impossible that everything is ideal. For any number of reasons like timing, funds, or space left in the case, sometimes, things don’t mesh. Sometimes they are too deep or frustrating. Sometimes you don’t find them musical. Sometimes modules don’t get along. So far, it’s worked out pretty well to stick with the modules I’ve purchased so far. I have my first couple modules I’ll be replacing. I can’t state enough that it doesn’t make these modules bad in any way, they’re so useful and many patches couldn’t happen without them, a lot of music wouldn’t have been made without them. As I’ve learned more about what I want and how I would like it to all work so these stick out a little bit as areas I could update a little. To be fair, if I didn’t have the chance to give the Shakmat modules a go, I likely would have just held onto them as there’s lots of different types of modules I don’t have currently and that’s likely where I’d focus instead of replacing. That being said, I wasn’t expecting to get as many new functions out of two seemingly simple modules. The core for both of these modules is playability, one of my main focusses in the case. No wonder it’s been so fun to get them patched up and make music and experiment. This is the third video in this little “modular groovebox” series. I’ll cram this Intellijel 4u104hp case with as much as I can and talk about either the whole setup, or one particular module. It’s all meant to show that the cases we see that are bigger than our bank accounts or knowledge aren’t the only way to have a cohesive modular setup. Meant as encouragement for anyone starting out that you can do a lot with not as many modules as you think you might need. That was a surprise for me and part of this little journey. The video has some jams, lots of talking and demos on the modules and the regular rambling. Hope you like it. If you’re liking the series, consider subscribing and leave a comment or question. Paid Promotion In chatting with Shakmat, they were happy to send me both the Triple Steeple and Banshee Reach but no money changed hands and Shakmat only asked that I show them in some patches on the channel. Shakmat doesn’t get to review any of the video before I post it.
