【Sendai City Iwakiri Castle Ruins】 The site of Iwakiri Castle is located in the northern part of the city, 1.3km northwest of JR Iwakiri Station. It is a large-scale Yamashiro that straddles Sendai City and Rifu Town. The area of ​​about 600m east-west and about 650m north-south in the center is designated as a national historic site. At the highest point, the altitude is about 106m, and you can see the plains in the lower reaches of the Nanakita River. The area of ​​the ruins is about 397,500 m2. At present, the core part of the castle ruins is maintained as a park, and most of the rest is forests, and Horikiri is maintained in various parts of the castle ruins. An archaeological excavation in 1935 revealed a large number of postholes, revealing the existence of buildings related to the castle. The first thing that can be seen in the literature is the 2nd year of Kannō (1351). It is known as the land of the disturbance of Kannō, which was a national civil war in the description of the battle. It is said to be the residence of the Rusu clan, and the owner of the Rusu clan during the Warring States period was also called Takamori-den because of Takamoriyama, where Iwakiri Castle is located. It is said that the castle was abandoned in 1570 when Mr. Rusu moved to Rifu Castle.
