LACMTA New Flyer C40LF Compilation

As we say goodbye to these New Flyer C40LF units or often referred to as “Shoe Boxes” let’s take a look at them as they served lines 164 & 165. These buses have served the LA Metro for nearly 20 years proving their durability, and they were fun to ride on with the engine adding the excitement to them. These particular buses were painted in four (4) different schemes which include: “Metro Bus” or “Yellow Jacket”, Metro Local, Metro Rapid, and Metro Express or “Business Blue” which the paint scheme was later removed after the service was discontinued. Some of these units were retired in 2015 due to the expiration of the CNG tanks, and the delivery of New Flyer XN40s. Most of the remaining units had been repowered to the Cummins Westport ISL G engines in the late 2000s and early 2010s, while a few of them, like unit 5390 which appears a few times throughout the video kept its original Detroit Diesel 50G engine along with 41 other units which were 5303, 5309, 5312, 5314-5315, 5318, 5324, 5327, 5335, 5340, 5342, 5349, 5358, 5361, 5363, 5375, 5379, 5385-5386, 5389-5390, 5404, 5407, 5414, 5417-5418, 5424-5425, 5453, 5457, 5475-5476, 5487, 5502, 5513-5514, 5517, and 5520-5522.
