We started in 80 feet of water slow pitch jigging for red grouper, hoping to put a legal fish in the box. With red snapper and gag grouper out of season, and tight regulations on triggerfish, every bite mattered. We bounced from 100 ft to 60 ft, moved reef to reef, switched from jigs to a chicken rig with squid, and even tried live bait to salvage the day. We caught fish… just not the kind (or timing) we were hoping for. Winter reef fishing in the Florida Panhandle can be brutal, especially between moon phases when the tide and current slow down. But sometimes you just have to grind it out and make the most of it. Stephen even got in on the action at the end with some surprise double hook-ups!
