Crown Family School Masterclass: Lessons from Transformative Pedagogy

S Simmons and Shipra Parikh discuss core elements of transformative pedagogical practices in social work education, in today’s sociopolitical climate. Citing examples from their recent co-taught course, entitled, “Graduating Student Seminar: Community Care, Values, and Futures of BIPOC social workers, they share best practices for the needs and futures of developing social work students. They also provide methodological examples from their own teaching experiences, including narrative storytelling, values discernment, emotional sustainability, community care, and transformative justice in problem solving, bridging the classroom to future student careers.
