Yamaha SY35 - Factory and User Presets Demo (Sounds Only) 00:00:08 - SINGLE Preset (Factory ROM) 00:15:32 - MULTI Preset (Factory ROM) 00:18:27 - SINGLE Internal (RAM Factory Initialization) 00:37:11 - SINGLE Internal (RAM User - New Millenium Sounds) 00:41:21 - Dynamic Vector Recording 00:46:05 - Factory Demo Song Yamaha uses specific terminology for the SY35 memory banks. Preset Bank is the non-writable ROM memory and Internal Bank is the rewritable RAM (User) memory. Both banks contain Single voices and Multi setups (used for layering sounds or multitimbral sequencing). You can reset the Internal RAM bank to its factory settings at any time, which provides an additional 64 factory sounds but overwrites any user-created patches. Interestingly, Yamaha programmed the Factory Demo Songs using sounds from the Internal RAM (such as Internal No. 88 - Drum Kit). Consequently, if you modify or delete those specific user sounds, the built-in demos will sound quite strange! The Yamaha SY35 is an updated version of the SY22 and TG33 synthesizers. The primary upgrade is the move to 16-bit AWM samples, compared to the 12-bit samples found in its predecessors. While the improvement in clarity is notable on many sounds, some enthusiasts argue that the "gritty" 12-bit character of the older models is actually superior. The SY35 combines two or four elements to create a single sound: 2 AWM (sampled) oscillators and 2 FM (2-operator) or 1 AWM and 1 FM oscillators. So, 4-Element mode provides 8-note polyphony and 2-Element mode increase polyphony to 16 notes. The most powerful feature of the SY35 (shared with the SY22 and TG33) is Dynamic Vector recording. Using the physical joystick, you can control the Level and Detune balance between the elements in real-time. You can record joystick movements as a 50-step sequence saved within each Voice/Preset ( 00:41:21 ). The joystick also sends MIDI control messages, allowing you to record your movements directly into a DAW. These sequences play automatically unless you select front-panel control, which allows the joystick to override the recorded movement. All sounds in this demo were recorded directly from the SY35 into a Tascam DR-05X recorder at 24-bit/96kHz resolution.
