Copy the complete checklist below for your phone or print it out. ⚓ PRE-DEPARTURE CRITICAL SYSTEMS CHECKLIST ⚓ 🔌 ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS Shore Power Verification - Check inverter panel ACN light is ON Battery Status - Service batteries in GREEN (24V system: 26+ volts) Engine Batteries - Check engine battery bank status Generator Batteries - Verify generator battery bank status ❄️ AIR CONDITIONING Chilled Water Loop - Verify water temp 50-55°F (cooling mode) System Response - Test thermostat shows proper loop temperature Heat Mode Check - If northern cruising, verify 100°F+ (heating mode) ⛽ FUEL & WATER Fuel Level - Note current fuel quantity for trip planning Water Level - Verify adequate fresh water for trip duration Fuel Sight Gauge - Open valves, check actual fuel level, CLOSE valves Emergency Fuel Shut-off - VERIFY valve is in OPEN position 🔧 ENGINE ROOM INSPECTION Generator Oil Level - Check dipstick, wipe clean, re-check Coolant Level - Verify coolant reservoir between min/max Water Leaks - Visual inspection for salt water leaks Belt Tension - Check fan belt is snug but not over-tight Test Start - Run generator briefly with covers off Main Engine Engine Oil - Check dipstick, verify between min/max marks Transmission Fluid - Check level (follow manufacturer's temp requirements) Coolant System - Check reservoir level, radiator cap if needed Fuel Filters - Verify running on clean filter, backup ready Exhaust System - Visual check for leaks or excessive corrosion Air Conditioning Chilled Water Pressure - Verify 14 PSI (or owner's marked range) Chiller Units - Visual inspection for leaks or issues Condensation - Normal condensation in drip trays only 🚢 DECK & SAFETY SYSTEMS Steering Hydraulic Fluid - Check reservoir level Visual Inspection - Look for fluid leaks around pumps/lines Backup Systems - Verify autopilot and emergency steering pumps Transom Door (CRITICAL SAFETY) Secure Latches - FULLY engaged, not partially caught Hydraulic Breaker - Turn OFF when not in use Water Intrusion - Check for any leaks around door seal Emergency Preparedness Anchor Ready - Remove safety lanyard, ensure quick deployment Crew Knowledge - Verify all aboard know anchor operation Engine Room Fans - Adjust intake/exhaust for conditions 📝 FINAL DEPARTURE Dock Lines - Remove unnecessary lines Shore Power - Disconnect and stow properly Generator Power - Switch to generator if needed Systems Status - One final check of all critical gauges ⚠️ EMERGENCY NOTES Fuel Shut-off: Red handle MUST show line in OPEN position Transom Door: #1 cause of yacht sinkings - ALWAYS secure properly Engine Room: Check when cool (early morning) for safety and comfort Hydraulic Steering: Never attempt repairs underway - ADD FLUID ONLY Remember: It's better to spend 20 minutes checking systems than 20 hours dealing with an emergency!
