Do they seem to surface at the worst possible times? When's the last time you let something or someone ruin your moment, or even your day? During the course of 24 hours, I can't even count the negative thoughts that fly in and out of my mind. Clearly we need to protect this amazing space of our soul, the heart of us that thinks and feels and hopes! And then moves throughout our day acting in response. King Solomon was told by God to ask for anything, and he asked for wisdom. He writes this in Proverbs 4:23: "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." It is that important. It affects how we show up in this world moment by moment. Are we going to be wise and guard it? Or just let anything affect it? Would we stand by and let these same thoughts, negativity and lies affect our own loved ones? Or would we defend them and encourage them and speak truth and love to them? Some of my most encouraging friends who pump me full of bravery and positivity, have such a hard time doing it for themselves. Why do we allow ourselves to think we are failures, not beautiful, not good enough? Why do we dwell on the things that others say or do and let that affect what we say and do? Because basically we are human and very vulnerable to mind attacks. But Hallelujah, the Lord of this Universe, our very Creator, considers us precious enough to protect! Isn't that amazing?! And He is here by our side to help, even sending His Spirit into our hearts to protect us! What a love! Psalm 28:7 "The Lord is my strength and my shield; I trust Him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy!" When you feel your heart under attack, from others or even from your own thoughts, imagine yourself guarding your heart. As if you were a trusted lookout, a sentinel, there to sense danger, sounding a warning cry in prayer and handing things over to God our Protector. It's amazing how many things are better left in His hand for His battle, than any amount of worrying that we can ever do over it. The Psalms are filled with David's songs, his cries for protection when he is under attack from his enemies. Even the enemies we can't see, but just feel. ------------------------------------------------------------------- At the time of creating this video, I kept hearing this song over and over.
