Maarten shares an account of the incredible effort to both feed Bhutanese refugees in Nepal and establish solar cooking as the primary cooking method to halt the deforestation that this tragic relocation brought about in the area around the camp and the border of Nepal. Maarten's presentation, and the Museum's conversation with him, is followed by a spirited discussion about solar cooking, helping to keep the Academy viable, and sharing strategies for promoting solar cooking in all regions and circumstances. Maarten didn't intend to set the bar so high, but his collaborative effort with multiple organizations, funders, and Bhutanese refugees themselves became, according to Deepak Gadhia, the largest successful concentration of solar cookers documented for the camps or any other region.
