Exploring New York City Empty During Covid-19

We are all experiencing this time differently and that’s ok. This time hit me little differently than I anticipated. My Dad had emergency open heart surgery about couple weeks before things shut down, making him obviously susceptible. His health was completely dependent on the way total strangers responded around him, without knowing who he is. That gave these empty streets, closed businesses & stillness a whole new meaning for me. Because despite the apocalyptic feeling here in New York, I’ve been weirdly filled with gratitude. Almost proud. There has been so much loss - jobs, businesses, loved ones. But to me, this was the the most remarkable act of global solidarity I’ll probably ever witness. It’s love in action as we unify as human beings. So although he may be a stranger to you, he is my Dad. And this sacrifice gave him & a whole lot of others a chance. So this is simply my unique experience with Covid-19. It may not be yours, and that’s ok! So Laugh. Cry. Celebrate.
