It was with mild temperatures and little wind, conditions considered ideal, that the Red Bull UCI Pump Track World Championships kicked off this Saturday (October 16). On the official track at Parque das Nações, next to Vasco da Gama Bridge, the best values of the youngest official sport recognized by the International Cycling Federation (UCI) were present. At this start of the competition, all attention was focused on the last minute qualification (Last Chance Qualifier). Giving the opportunity to any federated athlete not yet qualified for the grand final, this journey started with 41 athletes from 11 countries – a good part Portuguese. Although no Portuguese athlete was able to position themselves in the four eligible places that gave direct access to the grand final, the UCI awarded a wildcard place to Portugal. Taking into account that he was the fastest of all Portuguese athletes, with a mark of 30,438 seconds in the ¼ of finals, João Fidalgo will continue in competition. Fidalgo scored the fifth best time, 2.564 seconds behind the Swiss Loris Aeberhard, who won this qualification in men. The female sector was dominated by Swiss company Alma Wiggberg. The competition puts on the track one driver at a time (solo runs), with the objective being to complete the laps in the shortest possible time. The action takes place on the Parque das Nações track, which has a total length of 285 meters, comprising 16 curves. As happened today, tomorrow the public has free access to this in-person event, starting at 1pm. Thinking of all those who do not have the opportunity to travel to Lisbon, the organization will guarantee live broadcasting from 3:50 pm at https://www.redbull.com/int-en/events... uci-pump-track-world-championships-world-final. In parallel with the competition, tomorrow BMX Flatland fans will be able to watch a demonstration by the three-time World Champion, Jorge “Viki Gómez”. The Red Bull UCI Pump Track World Championships World Final has the support of the Parish Council of Parque das Nações, the Lisbon City Council, GHOST and Riding Culture.
