At least 44 people were shot in New York City between early Friday and the wee hours of Monday morning, 16 of them overnight -- including eight people shot at a gathering in Brooklyn. The five women and three men were shot in the vicinity of the Eleanor Roosevelt Houses on DeKalb Avenue around 12:30 a.m. The eight victims, ages 18 to 27, were all listed in stable condition, police said. None of their injuries are considered life-threatening. The NYPD, at a briefing Monday morning, said a crowd of people was listening to music when two shooters approached on foot from Pulaski Street and began firing. Bullets pierced two windows in the apartment complex, police said, though the occupants were not injured. It's unclear what sparked the violence and an investigation is ongoing, police said. There's also no further information on possible suspects. In total, 16 people were hurt in 90 minutes of gun violence incidents across Brooklyn and Queens late Sunday and early Monday. Besides the eight people at the Eleanor Roosevelt Houses, the NYPD also reported shootings in Cypress Hills, Jamaica and Springfield Gardens.
