My name is Shan⛰️ @shan_wang As being a Chinese, I‘m exploring my home country China and sharing what I meet and experience with you. I will try my best to speak and share in English. #MetInChina Ep7🎈 📂This time, I've started a trip with my wife Fanya together to China’s deep west—Qinghai and Gansu. These provinces are not well-known to the world as Beijing or Shanghai. We wanted to experience their amazing scenery and culture first hand. It's not only a meaningful experience for us as being a new couple in our marriage year-1, but also a journey for me my self to start over as a creator, creating and sharing what I love with you. In this episode, we visited Kumbum Monastery (塔尔寺 Ta‘er Temple) in #xining , we tried amazing local #chinesefood Hope you like this video 🎈 If you have any questions, just leave a comment. I'll try my best to answer. Also I‘m really expecting to hear from you, about anything~ ⬇️More #MetInChina videos I made⬇️ Beijing West: Train, Love and Marriage Advice | #MetInChina Ep1 🎬   • Beijing West: Train, Love and Marriage Adv...   Tibet✖️Islam: Xining, Religion and Cultural Mix | #MetInChina Ep2 🎬   • Tibet✖️Islam: Xining, Religion and Cultura...   Xining Deeper: Kumbum Monastery, Food and Travel Moment | #MetInChina Ep3 🎬   • Xining Deeper: Kumbum Monastery, Faith and...   Wonder Double: Cliff Temple, Grotto Buddha and Sunglow Danxia | #MetInChina Ep4 🎬   • Wonder Double: Cliff Temple, Grotto Buddha...   Canyon Whoosh: Camel, Hiking and China’s Colorado | #MetInChina Ep5 🎬   • Colorado Canyon In China: Camel, Hiking an...   Dunhuang Déjà vu: History, Marriage and Hope | #MetInChina Ep6 🎬   • Dunhuang Déjà vu: My Story of Marriage and...   Mars Dreaming: Oxygen, Loneliness and Life as A Miracle | #MetInChina Ep7 🎬   • Mars Dreaming: Oxygen, Loneliness and Life...   Fishless Green: Salt Lake, Qarhan Wonder and Being Alive | #MetInChina Ep8 🎬   • Being Alive: Surreal Green Experience, Sal...   This #MetInChina travel vlog series is still unfolding, more amazing sceneries, and stories are awaiting. Stay tuned for the next one! --- Full-body prostrations showed in this video are Tibetan Buddhist pilgrims performing a sacred practice called Chaktsa ( ཅག་ཙྭ /磕长头/大礼拜). They take three steps, then fully prostrate themselves—kneeling, stretching forward, and touching their foreheads to the ground—as an act of devotion, purification, and accumulation of merit on their journey to sacred sites. It's a profound Tibetan Buddhist meditation-in-motion. By merging movement, breath, and total physical surrender, they purify karma and embody compassion with every prostration. Background information and more ⬇️ 🌄Why Kumbum Monastery (Tibetan: གོན་པ་བྱམས་པ་གླིང་ | Chinese: 塔尔寺 Ta‘er Temple) Matters Sacred Origins: Born from a sandalwood tree that sprouted where the great Buddhist reformer Tsongkhapa (1357–1419) shed umbilical blood. His mother built a stupa here in 1379; the monastery grew around it—hence its name "Kumbum" (100,000 Images Stupa) . Religious Significance: The cradle of the Gelug school (Yellow Hat sect), now Tibet’s dominant tradition. 6 Dalai Lamas and 4 Panchen Lamas studied here. Pilgrims circle its halls, spinning prayer wheels to accumulate merit . Architectural Fusion: Blending Tibetan, Han Chinese, even Nepali styles across 25 halls. 🎨 The "Three Wonders" — Why Artists Revere Kumbum Butter Sculptures (酥油花): Frozen dreams in yak butter—dyed with minerals, sculpted in near-freezing rooms to prevent melting. Each piece depicts Buddhist parables (e.g., Monkey King tales). See them at the Butter Lamp Festival (Jan 15 lunar) . Embossed Thangkas (堆绣): Silk gods stuffed with cotton—3D "painting" unique to Kumbum. Mineral Pigment Murals (壁画): 600-year-old stories on walls—indigo from lapis, red from cinnabar—still glowing today Photo or video inside buildings are not allowed. So this video didn't cover those signature art works. Come and feel them in person!
