Pretty much every CPU in Intel's line-up from the Core i7 and Core i9 to the Core i3 and Pentium has hyperthreading. So, what does it actually do? Well, that is what I discuss in this video. In it's most basic form, hyperthreading on an Intel processor creates a 2 logical/virtual cores for each physical a processor has. This is why Windows shows 8 cores on a quad-core Intel processor that has hyperthreading. It doubles the number of cores the operating system and software on the computer pick up, and it doubles the number of cores they can use. It does this by queuing up tasks quicker by increasing the number of independent instructions in the pipeline in which multiple instructions operate on separate data in parallel. In normal terms, it gives your processor things to do constantly. An example of this is video editing. A processor using Intel Hyperthreading queues up the next frame right as the current frame finishes leaving no time for the processor to search for something else to do. It happens instantly.
