Adungu is one of the cherished traditional forms of music among the Samian people. Its versatility allows it to be played at various functions, from formal ceremonies to casual settings like relaxation joints. Over the years, several artists have embraced this genre, making a name for themselves. One such artist was the renowned Wanyama Omee, who released a series of songs, many of which carried educational messages. Omee's music left a lasting impact on the community, but following his passing in 2014, little has been heard about the band or the future of Adungu music. Recently, Edokho Ria Basamia had the opportunity to reconnect with two former members of the Omee group. They took a moment to reflect on the legacy of Omee’s music, recalling the timeless songs that once resonated with so many. During the conversation, the musicians also shared their thoughts on the future of Adungu music, expressing both the challenges and hopes they face in keeping this important musical tradition alive.
