This is restoration of an Atlanta Stove Works Model #26. It's been restored to make a cozy fireplace area on our back patio. This was a weekend warrior project with my daughters. My husband helped out with the pipe and doors. Supplies: Safety Googles Face Mask Disposable Gloves 1 1/2 tubs of Stove Polish Paste Norton Wire Wheel brush set of 6-Lowes Hardware Drill Hand wire brushes, various sizes Two-2' Stove Pipes 8" diameter 1 Spark Arrestor for wood burners 1 Spray Can High Heat Black Spray paint for door hardware-knobs 1 Grill Cover -cut the back to fit over if using outside This took 1 full weekend to sand down and polish. We had 1 broken piece of glass that we ordered from a local glass company. I took a sample in so they could get the correct dimensions on it. After listening to a lot of guys on you tube, I realized I had to use stove polish on my wood burner. I think it's a city girl mistake to paint cast iron. As one guy put it, "You don't paint a cast iron pan." Profound for sure. I also think being outside, this will be so much easier to maintain than paint chipping off. I found lots of helpful videos out there, but as a woman, I just wanted to show everyone that this is a project we can tackle. I'm thrilled with how good it came out. There are so many of these that are sitting in garages, barns, basements, ect. I've seen them for a couple hundred dollars in the condition like ours. I hope this inspires you to tackle this project!
