It’s a region in constant crisis, with few security frameworks able to contain the fallout. Israel’s war on Gaza has spilt well beyond its borders, reaching as far as the Red Sea and the Gulf. One direct consequence: confidence in an American-led security order is eroding. Longstanding assumptions about deterrence and US protection are being tested and openly questioned. Against that backdrop, new partnerships are taking shape. Ankara and Riyadh are moving closer, turning a once-cautious rapprochement into something far more strategic. Last week, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was in Saudi Arabia, meeting Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The agreements span defence, energy, trade, and regional coordination, signalling a partnership built for the long term. And beyond bilateral ties, a potential security alignment linking Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan is emerging. A partnership that could reshape the region’s balance of power.
