‘16th World Scout Jamboree Mondial’ was made by Island productions for Scout Association Australia in 1988. The video was produced in multiple video formats and primarily intended as a record for attendees. The video shows some of the activities, events and camp life from the 16th World Scout Jamboree Mondial, held at Cataract Scout Park in New South Wales, Australia from 30 December 1987 to 7 January 1988, and attended by over 14,000 members of the Movement (plus many more visiting Cubs, and others) from 98 countries. The event was considered the first event of the Australian Bicentenary year, and widely supported by government and the community. The scout camp site, which is still regularly used to host major state, national and international Scouting events, was purchased and prepared in preparation for this 1988 event, and trialled with an Australian Jamboree in 1985-6 to prepare it for the international visitors. The Australian style of running a World Jamboree is also noticeable – from the Troop-based (not communal) catering arrangements to the scattering of International contingents around the site such that they were sometimes camped next to Scouts from nations with very different governments. The video features details from Australian experiences for international visitors to the camp hospital, the big storm at the end of the event to the challenge valley course, and many reflections from international participants. This is just a sample of the material which the volunteers at Scout Heritage Victoria are working to preserve for the Victorian community and especially the Scouts of the past, present and future. Digitised from a VHS tape from the old Victorian Branch audio-visual library, by Scout Heritage Victoria volunteers. This is an edited version by Scout Heritage Victoria volunteers for the benefit of people who may not have attended the event.
