Get the recipe: https://bakewith.us/a46kpv39 Up your cake decorating game! We’re showing you four of our favorite techniques for piping frosting onto a cake. Combine a few on your next cake for a gorgeous, sophisticated look. Just watch how it’s done and practice to find which technique works for you. See both methods in our tip video. For more quick baking tips and tricks, subscribe to our video channel: http://bit.ly/YTkaf For the first three techniques, use a star tip fitted onto a pastry bag filled with frosting. Switch to a flat basket weave tip for the 4th technique. Technique 1: The twist – Place the tip of the pastry bag on the cake, then pipe up and around to the right in a swirl motion to create a half circle. You can make your twist a bit loose, or close together. Technique 2: The teardrop – Place the tip of the pastry bag on the cake, and squeeze gently, piping away from you and then back towards you to create a teardrop shape. Technique 3: The comma – Place the tip of the pastry bag on the cake and, squeezing gently, pipe down and then swoop up slightly to create a comma shape. You can also reverse the motion to make a backwards comma, and can easily combine the two shapes together. Technique 4: The basket weave – For this technique, pipe a vertical line. Then pipe horizontal lines, crossing over the vertical line at equal intervals. Then pipe another vertical line to the right of the first one, and continue repeating the steps to create a woven pattern.
