The answer is: The EDD is supposed to automatically add the extensions to your claim once the balance hits 0 if you are within your benefit year however, sometimes you still have to call to get the next PEUC, PEUX or PEUY extension. Here's the timeline for when you would see your unemployment claim balance increase if it was successfully added automatically: 1. Claim balance hits 0 2. See the maximum benefits paid message 3. Your balance should increase in two weeks when you go to certify again. If your claim balance doesn't increase after you certify again in two weeks after your balance hits 0 or you can't certify at all 2 weeks after your balance hits 0, that's when I'd recommend calling the EDD.
