What starts as a routine cemetery hunt turns into one of the wildest days we’ve had in the field. In this video, I join my friend Cecil in Sumter County, Georgia as he continues his mission to locate and document every cemetery in the county—a staggering 139 sites in total. We begin at a cemetery deep in the woods that even the neighbor across the road didn’t know existed—until now. A barking dog welcomes us as we arrive, but instead of trouble, the dog becomes our guide—and his owner joins the search too. Inside this forgotten graveyard, we uncover incredible history: 19th-century brick tombs, a rare wooden grave shelter known as a “House of the Dead,” and white bronze headstones—metal grave markers made of zinc that are nearly impossible to find today. This is just the start of a bigger series of videos—what I’m calling the “Cecil Documentary.” In one nonstop day, we visit 15 cemeteries, find an abandoned church, battle rough back roads, and reveal the real work that goes into preserving and documenting forgotten history. This is the human side of history. The quiet cemeteries. The long drives. The stories waiting in the woods. 📌 To be continued...
